The largest solar-powered boat in the world Turanor PlanetSolar arrived Hong Kong on 15 August, 2011. It started the journey back in September 2010 from Monaco and stopped at the United States, Mexico, Australia and the Philippines before it arrived Hong Kong, the next stop will be Singapore. It was an excellent time for us to promote PV solar energy to the public. A panel discussion of “The future of solar mobility and clean air” was held by Clean Air Network. Dr Sam Lam, Jiawei’s PV system manager presented his ideas of the feasibility of implementing solar technology within shipping industry. Besides, Mr. Erwann Le Rouzic, Captain of Plansolar and Mr. Simon Ng, Visiting Scholar, Institute for the Environment, HKUST also shares their thoughts and stories about alternative energy in Hong Kong’s marine industry. It was an exciting event for Jiawei to increase the awareness of renewable energy to the society.
